CHANCEN network

Scientific monitoring of the Startchancen program:

With the Startchancen program , the federal and state governments jointly support pupils at structurally disadvantaged schools with the aim of decoupling educational success from social background. Over 10 years, around 4,000 schools in challenging social situations are to be reached. A particular focus is on promoting the basic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic in order to ensure the long-term educational success of pupils in socially disadvantaged areas. The social and personal development of the pupils is also to be specifically promoted. Ultimately, the pupils at the Startchancen schools are to be supported in acquiring future skills that will enable them to participate successfully in the world of work and society.

In order to achieve these goals, the Startchancen schools are supported in their school development, teachers and educational staff are systematically and systematically professionalized and the networking of the schools with relevant external stakeholders, but also other schools (e.g. in school networks) is strengthened.

The research association:

The CHANCEN network is responsible for the scientific monitoring and support of the Startchancen program, taking into account the state-specific framework conditions. The research association provides needs-based impulses for sustainable and evidence-based school and teaching development in order to achieve the goals of the Startchancen program. In doing so, it works in close coordination and cooperation with the specific support systems of the federal states (including state and quality institutes, school boards, school supervisory authorities and ministries). The work of the network follows three phases:

- Agreement on initial situations, needs and strategies in the individual federal states.

- Research-based further development of materials, concepts and qualification offers - design-oriented and on the basis of research-based findings. In the sense of co-construction, the needs of the various stakeholders are taken into account.

- Anchoring and interlinking the resulting knowledge for action in the system.

The CHANCEN network brings together scientists from 20 institutions who work together in a network management, a governance center, 5 competence centers and two transfer and transformation hubs.

The CHANCEN network at RPTU in Landau:

Two structural units of the CHANCEN network are located at RPTU in Landau: a Transfer and Transformation Hub and the Interdisciplinary Competence Center for Data-driven Quality Development.

The transfer and transformation h ubs support the federal states and the respective support systems as a bridge structure between science, practice and education administration in the concrete implementation of the program. The employees of the transfer and transformation hubs systematically support and advise the people in the country support systems who are deployed to implement the Startchancen program, such as the heads of the interdisciplinary networks. They also work closely with the various competence centers of the network to ensure a fit between the materials and concepts developed there and the country-specific priorities, needs and formats.

The Interdisciplinary Competence Center for Data-Based Quality Development supports schools and state actors in the support system in the systematic and targeted use of data for the development of schools and teaching. In order to promote the institutional-structural, personal and professionalization-related conditions for the success of data-supported quality development, the services offered by the competence center include

- the research-based development and further development of existing concepts and materials for data-based quality development, which also takes into account country-specific needs and objectives

- Training courses for people in the school support system who are responsible for supporting schools in the Startchancen program.

The CHANCEN network is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Families, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
